Dick Harsin, CDFA®

My background helping clients through the financial split of divorce is personal.

I’ve helped family members with disabled children through a tricky divorce process.

After my divorce, there had been no real financial planning and I was stuck with a large amount of debt. Since that time it has been my goal to help educate others of the need for financial planning when getting a divorce.

In addition to CDFA®, I also hold CPA® and CFP® licenses.

Dick Harsin, owner of Emerald City Divorce Solutions.

Why Choose Us?

Dodge expensive & contentious lawyers

If you have a clean divorce in mind, choose a professional who helps couples productively negotiate solutions together. We review and suggest the details of your financial split, and lead you through the paperwork for a clean, fair divorce.

Fixed rate rather than hourly billing

Once we learn the scope and complexity, we provide an upfront final cost.

Divorce attorneys typically charge by the hour. This adds stress and hurries an important process.

With a CDFA®, you control the timeline

The divorce process gets dragged out when you choose to litigate in court.

With a CDFA®, you meet with us and progress at your own pace.

A CDFA® is neutral

As a 3rd party, we hope to give each of you opportunities to speak in a non-adversarial manner to reach cooperative solutions.

We’re not fighting for one side or the other. We’re present to share financial expertise so you can make fair and informed financial decisions.

Our process from first contact to final agreement

Reach out to schedule your first meeting

Fill out our contact form at the top of this page.

We’ll find a time to meet either on Zoom or in our office.

Finalizing the agreement

We consider the tax implications, liquidity, and earnings potential of each spouse. Then we listen, review and suggest proposals that will lead to a fair and equitable financial split.

Paperwork that’s ready for a judge

We will work with you to complete the paperwork needed to finalize the divorce.

With divorce papers finished, you’ll need to schedule a hearing to ask a judge to sign your orders.

FAQ’s

How do you calculate cost?
Our starting fee is $3,000. We only raise our rate for complex financial cases, for example, restricted stock options.
Do you help decide child custody?
We do not get involved in custody disputes.
If this is a big factor in your divorce, a family lawyer may be a better fit.
Can you work with only one side of the marriage?
We do not advocate for one side or the other. We’re present to share financial expertise so you can make fair and informed financial decisions.
Both sides must agree on final decisions about the division of property.
Can a CDFA be involved with lawyers?
Typically, we work with divorcing couples that do not have legal representation. We can reach a fair and equitable financial split without attorneys present.
Occasionally a CDFA® is brought into a divorce with attorneys already present. This can be helpful to provide 3rd party financial expertise so all parties can mutually understand the financial implications of the divorce agreement.

A CDFA® can also reduce your reliance on a lawyer if you rely on a lawyer for administrative help and use a CDFA® for divorce planning.

This limits the expensive hours you would spend with an attorney and brings them in only when they’re needed.
